BONE - Building the Future Optical Network in Europe: The e-Photon/ONe Network (FP7-ICT-FP7-216863)

The BONE-project builds on the foundations laid out by the e-Photon/ONe projects in the previous Framework Programme. This Network of Excellence has successfully brought together over several years the research activities within Europe in the field of Optical Networks. The BONE-project intends to validate this effort by stimulating a more intensified collaboration, exchange of researchers and building on Virtual Centres of Excellence that can serve to European industry with education & training, research tools & testlabs and pave the way to new technologies & architectures.

FIERRO - Future Internet: Eficiencia en Redes de Altas Prestaciones (TEC2010-12250-E)

The FIERRO-project puts the focus on the technological challenges to be faced by the high-speed metro and core networks in future Internet, where the traffic is aggregated. The drastic expected growth in traffic volumes and traffic variability that the massive popularization of bandwidth hungry applications like high-quality IPTV services, mobile multimedia services and cloud computing services will bring to the aggregation network. The intrinsic inefficiency of some of the schemes in current Internet, are a barrier to a massive deployment of these services. In this sense, efficiency in the network at every layer is not an added value, but an absolute requirement to make the Future Internet possible.

CALM - ChAracterization, EvaLuation, Planning and IMprovement of Key Technologies for the Future Internet: Knowledge and Transfer (TEC2010-21405-C02-02)

The CALM-project leverages on a technology-agnostic identification of research methodologies (analysis, simulation, modeling and optimization) which may apply to different scenarios. The set of technologies under study in this project spans from high-performance optical networks to delay-tolerant networks, including wideband wireless access networks and wireless sensor networks.
