The 2nd Workshop "Future Internet: Efficiency in high-speed networks" (W-FIERRO 2012) will be held in Cartagena (Spain), in the Spanish Mediterranean coast, 19th and 20th of July 2012. The goal of W-FIERRO is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners investigating in the evolution of the high-speed networks for the Future Internet.
W-FIERRO puts the focus on the technological challenges to be faced by the high-speed metro and core networks in future Internet, where the traffic is aggregated. The drastic expected growth in traffic volumes and traffic variability that the massive popularization of bandwidth hungry applications like high-quality IPTV services, mobile multimedia services and cloud computing services will bring to the aggregation network. The intrinsic inefficiency of some of the schemes in current Internet, are a barrier to a massive deployment of these services. In this sense, efficiency in the network at every layer is not an added value, but an absolute requirement to make the Future Internet possible.
Sessions will include panel sessions and presentations on research results. Papers describing original work are invited in any of the areas described in the call for papers will be considered.
